Today those with all their paperwork completed are welcome to join me for a 3 mile run at Sandhills Extension at 8a. I am challenging all athletes to complete a second run today. In the evening, attempt a second run of 2-3 miles on your own.
Running 2x a day may seem crazy, but here is why I'm encouraging it this season. First, it allows athletes to bank more mileage at a faster pace. Athletes are able to run 3 miles at a faster pace than they can run 6 miles. By splitting the miles into two workouts you will actually get more quality in your runs. Secondly a second workout allows athletes the opportunity to develop confidence in their ability to run a certain distance. For many girls just starting out a 6 mile run may seem daunting but a 3 mile run will appear more doable. By splitting the mileage athletes are able to still tax their bodies while building speed, and confidence to tackle longer runs without jumping directly into a long run.
